Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball Keep Rolling

SAN FRANCISCO - Through the first three weeks of 2026, the Archbishop Riordan varsity boys and girls basketball teams have both been playing at a high level.

Last week, the boys squad continued to stack wins in the early portion of the West Catholic Athletic League schedule. Defeating Serra 57-46 at home on Tuesday before going on the road at St. Francis and winning 85-51 on Friday to improve to 4-0 in WCAL play.

The girls also put together an impressive week, winning non-league games at Salesian 54-45 on Wednesday and at Clayton Valley Charter 50-47 on Saturday. In the team's lone WCAL contest of the week at home against St. Francis, Mafalda Fontan Rodriguez '26 made two big 3-pointers down the stretch and Zion McGuire's basket with less than 20 seconds remaining gave the Crusaders a 55-53 lead that their defense was able maintain in a wild final possession which saw the Lancers make a put back that was waved off by the officials as it came just after the final buzzer had sounded.

The girls squad is 2-0 is currently WCAL competition.

Riordan Sailing Performs Well at City Champs Regatta

SAN FRANCISCO - It was a cold and windy January day on the water, but the Crusaders showed to be unfazed by the elements and the stiff competition.

The regatta featured 12 races with 9 boats representing 7 high schools. The Bay School captured first place, with Convent & Stuart Hall finishing second, in a highly competitive field.

Archbishop Riordan posted several strong individual race results throughout the event. Nolan Balocki (skipper) and Jai Walthew (crew) recorded two second-place finishes, while Kaia Burris (skipper) and Leonard Tan (crew) earned a third-place finish. Freshman Charly Petty sailed in challenging 14-knot winds and had a fourth-place finish in one race.
